Company based in Dublin, Ireland.12-month ContractAI Software | Backend Engineering | Applied AI | SaaS | Generative AI Our client, a growing AI Software company based in Dublin, is looking for an AI Backend Engineer to build the scalable APIs, services, and integrations behind production AI applications. You'll work primarily as a backend engineer, using Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and AWS, while integrating LLMs and AI capabilities into reliable production systems. What You'll Work On• Build production backend services and APIs using Python and FastAPI• Integrate LLM APIs into customer-facing applications and workflows• Design scalable REST APIs and service architectures• Build data models and services using PostgreSQL• Use Redis for caching, queues, and application performance• Integrate AI services with internal and external APIs• Containerise applications and services using Docker• Deploy and operate backend workloads on AWS• Build asynchronous and background processing workflows• Improve API performance, reliability, and scalability• Implement authentication, logging, monitoring, and error handling• Collaborate with AI, Product, and Software Engineers to turn AI capabilities into production features Core Skills• 3+ years in Backend Engineering, Software Engineering, AI Engineering, or a similar role• Strong Python development experience• FastAPI or similar Python backend frameworks• PostgreSQL• REST APIs and backend architecture• Docker• AWS• Redis• Experience integrating LLM APIs or AI services into production applications Nice to HaveOpenAI / Anthropic APIsRAGVector databasesLangChain / LangGraphMCP / tool callingCelery or other asynchronous processing frameworksKubernetesTerraformCI/CDOpenTelemetryEvent-driven architecturesExperience building high-volume SaaS applications
