About the Arabic Language CaféThe Arabic Language Café is a weekly informal gathering at Oodi Library in Helsinki, bringing together people interested in Arabic language and culture. Participants have different levels of Arabic, from complete beginners to advanced speakers and native speakers.Each session usually includes a guest speaker, group discussion, reading activities, and informal conversation over Arabic tea and snacks.About the volunteer roleWe are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us organize and run the Arabic Language Café sessions.As a volunteer, you may help with:Welcoming and registering participantsHelping new participants feel comfortable and includedSupporting small-group discussions and Arabic reading activitiesHelping participants communicate and practise ArabicPreparing the room and materials before the sessionHelping with tea, snacks, and other practical arrangementsSupporting the guest speaker during the sessionTaking photos or helping with social media content when neededSharing ideas for activities, discussions, and cultural contentYou do not need to be a professional Arabic teacher. What matters most is your interest in Arabic, culture, community work, and creating an inclusive environment.Who we are looking forWe welcome volunteers from different backgrounds. You may be:An Arabic speaker who would like to support Arabic learnersAn Arabic learner who wants to practise and meet other peopleSomeone interested in Arab culture and intercultural dialogueA student or community volunteer looking for practical experienceSomeone who enjoys organizing events and working with peopleBeing able to communicate in Arabic and English is an advantage, but we welcome people with different language backgrounds.Time commitmentThe Arabic Language Café takes place every Thursday from 16:30 to 18:00 at Oodi Library, Group Room 4.Volunteers do not need to attend every session. You can indicate your availability in the application form, including whether you can volunteer regularly or occasionally.
