We are now looking for a

Biostatistician

to join us in the Research Unit of Clinical Medicine for a fixed-term position lasting until 31 December 2029.

You will be based with the Lifecourse Medicine and Birth Cohort Research Group at the Clinical Medicine Research Unit. Our mission in the research group is to understand how exposures early in life, from the fetal period onwards, affect health and well-being during the life course, up to the next generation, and to use this information to advance lifelong health and well-being. We are in particular interested in adult and next-generation outcomes of people born preterm or small for gestational age in high and low resource settings.

In our research we use various types of data including whole-population data from national social and healthcare registers from Finland and other Nordic countries and data from clinically studied children and adults in high and low resource settings, including detailed physiological measurements and omics data.

As a biostatistician, you willBe responsible for data management including data cleaning, harmonisation and documentation and preparation of analysis datasets of diverse data types such as social and healthcare register data, data from physiological and biochemical measurements, omics data or data collected by wearables. This work is conducted in close connection with other group members, much of it in data secure remote access environments including Findata Kapseli, Statistics Finland Fiona Centre for Scientific Computing CS Desktop or corresponding Nordic environments. The job may include visits to the Nordic and other collaborators' institutions.Contribute to the design of data management solutions to maximise work efficacy and data security.Handle data access and ethics committee applications and other regulatory requirements of use of data.Contribute to research and statistical analysis plans together with other research group members, conduct statistical analyses according to these plans and document their results and methodologies used. Provide advice and take part in training of other group members on data management and data analysis.Take part in other related activities of the research group.Actively train to learn new statistical analysis and data management methods.Depending on the interest and experience of the successful applicant, the job may also include a more active role in developing scientific research questions and writing scientific papers. In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we require from you:A Masters degree in a relevant field including, but not limited to, statistics, mathematics, or bioinformatics. Fluency in written and spoken EnglishVery good familiarity with at least one commonly used statistical software and ability to support and work with group members working with different statistical software. Experience in data management and statistical analysis in research using large quantitative datasets.Good communication and work organisation skills.We also appreciateA doctoral degree. Finnish language skills. The working language of the research group is English, but documentation including that of the data regulatory authorities may be in Finnish. Scientific contributions including scientific publications.The final job description will be shaped according to the skills and interests of the successful candidate.

Salary

The position is fixed term starting from 1.12.2026 (or as agreed) until 31.12.2029.

The salary will be based on the levels MV08-MV09 of the demand level chart for other expert and support staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx.3300-4200 EUR per month (before taxes), depending on experience. A trial period of 6 months is applied to the position.
