Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Elementic Almost nothing new ever happens in construction. Everything is an optimisation of the old. Elementic is the exception: a genuinely new material and materials technology, the most carbon-negative building material in the world — and developed nowhere else in the world. Buildings and construction account for nearly 40% of global emissions. Elementic's mission is to solve climate change at a scale that actually matters, and construction is its first branch. The company is now building its pilot scale factory and business, and we are looking for its first full-time CFO to join the management team. What we do Elementic's material is a pure-carbon monomaterial made from forest industry side streams: no glues, no resins. It looks like stone, feels like ceramic, and every kilogram stores around three kilograms of CO₂. The MO6 interior tiles — fire resistant, acoustic and beautiful — are essentially ready and launch around the turn of the year. "This technology is — in my opinion — perhaps the best innovation for permanent CO₂ reduction the built industry has ever seen." — Partner company CEO (+100M€ revenue) The same material is also drawing interest well beyond construction, with research underway into a range of large-scale industrial applications. This is not one product. It is a new technology tree. The company has raised roughly 11 million euros across instruments: private capital plus funding from the EU EIC Accelerator, Business Finland and the EU LIFE programme. Pilot deliveries are out with customers in Finland and abroad. What you will own The role has existed previously as a part-time interim role, so you will build it yourself. Finance and reporting, run independently. To the board, to financiers and to EU bodies, at a level where nobody has to step in and fix things. The public funding stack. EU applications and reporting, plus Business Finland from start to finish. Cost allocation and counterpart work set up so the funding can actually be drawn down. The economics of factory investments. You don't just track what lands in the ledgers. You understand what is being bought and why, and you build the financial architecture around the investment.Management team work. You are the CEO's and the Head of Operations' sparring partner in strategic decisions, not an accountant.Beyond that: Commercial sparring where deals get structured, sparring with the lead engineer on scale-up modelling, and HR. Payroll runs through the accounting firm, but the payroll checks before payment, employment law questions and the employer's occupational safety duties are yours. Who thrives here Strong finance fundamentals and meticulous accuracy. In public funding, one dropped detail gets expensive. An understanding of growth-company reality: everything moves fast, nothing is ever finally locked down, and you still have to act decisively.A business development instinct: you have seen how deals actually get made, and you can hold a real conversation about where the business should go.Enough seniority to hold your own in front of a bank or an investor. We are not looking for the longest CV: you already have real experience in the areas that matter, but hungry and still developing beats twenty years of the same thing.Active use of AI tools, and genuine curiosity about them. The rest of our IT stack is AI-native, so finance cannot be the one function outside it. You don't need to have built anything yet, but passive use is not enough. The environment is Google, not MicrosoftFluent Finnish and English. The plant and production teams work in Finnish and you will be with them a great deal. Finance itself runs largely in English: financiers, auditors and EU reporting all pull the documentation that way. The plus we weigh most heavily: experience building a new production plant or a comparable hard-asset investment, ideally in a small organisation rather than under a large parent. The industry does not matter, having handled the thing does. Bonus points for bio-industry or building products, raw material sourcing, and an engineer's curiosity about how things work. What we offer A function you shape yourself, and a management team seat in a company entering its first real business year. Colleagues who are genuinely good at what they do: the work is pioneering, sometimes rough, and the whole team is excited to be doing it. Things get said out loud, mistakes get talked through and fixed. The best AI tools available, with no obstacles and permission to build with what you need. The salary range for the role is 6,000-8,000 EUR/month, and where you land in it depends on your experience and how much of the package you can own from day one. Also, the company dedicates active ownership to its employees through an employee ownership scheme. Practicalities The role does not require sitting in an office every day. It does require being at the Lempäälä plant regularly, and in the first months the strong preference is once a week or more. The reason is concrete: you cannot learn to understand a plant remotely. The equipment, the process and the daily rhythm are all there, and the Helsinki office is no substitute. Once you know the plant, visits can be less frequent. Fully remote isn’t an option. If you live in the Helsinki region, Lempäälä is about an hour and a half each way. Start date: as soon as possible. How to apply The search is run by Coventures. Send a free-form message with your CV or a link to your LinkedIn profile to juho@coventures.io and marko@coventures.io, addressing your message to both.
