Introduction

If you are interested in sustainability and the role of investment in enabling sustainable development in low- and lower-middle-income countries, this internship offers an opportunity to gain research experience in the field.

About The Internship

Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is seeking an intern for the Finance for sustainable development program (FSD), within the Development Policy and Finance Team (DPF) at SEI’s Stockholm headquarters.

The FSD program focuses on the dynamics of enabling greater investment in sustainable projects, particularly in low- and lower-middle-income countries. It builds on SEI’s track record in international climate and development finance and aims to support investment in sustainable economic activities needed to achieve global sustainability goals and the climate targets set out in the Paris Agreement.

Current work includes

risk mitigation associated with renewable energy investments in sub-Saharan Africasustainable business model innovationpolicy support for international climate finance institutionsblended finance approaches to mobilize private sector investmenttraining on public and private sustainable finance

The team is also working on a new five-year project on mobilizing private investment for climate and nature , in which the intern will be involved.

The intern will

conduct literature reviews and synthesize findingscarry out research and data collection from available sourcessupport event organization and deliveryliaise with the SEI communications team

Who you are

You are studying finance, economics, political science, international development, sustainability studies or a related field, and have an interest in the role of investment in sustainable development.

You have strong analytical and communication skills and are fluent in English. You are comfortable working in a collaborative environment and able to coordinate tasks effectively.

Through your studies or previous experience, you have developed skills in conducting research, including formulating research questions, analysing data and applying qualitative or quantitative methods.

Currently enrolled in a master’s programStrong analytical and communication skillsExperience in qualitative and/or quantitative data analysisFamiliarity with low- and lower-middle-income country contextsFluent in English

Location

The internship is based at SEI HQ in Stockholm. An in-person internship involving office visits several times per week is preferred.
