Freelance 2D Character Designer – Family Party Game

Join an exciting project to design and animate original 2D characters for a cozy, family-friendly party game where toddlers, children, and adults play together on TV using phones as controllers. The first game, Freeze Dance, features player avatars that dance and freeze into expressive poses. The visual style should be warm, flat-vector, and highly readable on TV, with rounded shapes, simple facial features, and clear silhouettes. Inspiration is drawn from accessible children’s games, but all assets must be original and not derivative of existing characters. The project begins with a paid style test and continues with fixed-price milestones for asset delivery.

Deliverables

Design and rig a DJ/host character in a flat-vector style. Create eight distinct animal player avatars as skins on a shared Spine skeleton. Develop shared, loopable, and blendable animations, including freeze poses. Produce 12 movement icons for in-game use. Deliver Spine 4.2 project and export files, texture atlases, PNGs, and layered source art compatible with Godot 4.6. Ensure all assets are original, non-AI-generated, and provided as work-for-hire with full rights transferred.

Proven experience in 2D character design for games or children’s media, with a strong portfolio demonstrating flat-vector, readable styles. Proficiency in Spine 2D animation software, including rigging, skinning, and creating blendable animations on shared skeletons. Ability to create assets optimized for TV readability and game UI, with clear silhouettes and expressive poses. Skilled in delivering layered source files and export assets for game engines (preferably Godot). Strong communication skills and ability to iterate based on feedback. Commitment to originality and adherence to non-AI, work-for-hire asset creation. Availability for a paid style test and milestone-based project work. Remote work; flexible hours.
