Master Thesis - Blocked Force Method to Acoustic Sources
Background
The Blocked Force Method is a component-based approach used to characterise structure-borne noise sources independently of the receiving structure. The blocked forces represent the forces that a source would exert at its interfaces if the receiving structure were rigidly constrained. Once the blocked forces and the relevant transfer functions are known, the contribution of the source to the vibration or acoustic response of a complete vehicle can be estimated without repeatedly testing the source in its final installation.
Goal
The goal of this thesis is to characterise a selected component, such as a wiper system or compressor, and determine its structure-borne contribution to interior noise. The thesis also aims to develop a repeatable workflow for characterising components mounted on Scania vehicles. This workflow will support the identification of dominant excitation forces, transfer paths, and frequency ranges that influence the interior noise response. The results may also support component benchmarking, installation optimisation, and the development of effective noise-reduction measures during the early stages of vehicle development
The assignment is divided into four parts
Understand the Blocked Force Method.Plan and perform the measurements required to characterize the acoustic sources.Develop a workflow for applying the Blocked Force Method.Prepare a final presentation and technical report.
