Nursery Manager (International Hire)Uganda, East AfricaFull-Time, Expatriate Assignment Looking for an experienced, hands-on Farm Manager to lead a large-scale regenerative agricultureoperation in Uganda — a role for someone who wants real ownership of a farm, a team to build, and the chance to shape a sustainability-led operation from the ground up. Client is an Indian conglomerate with interests spanning Textiles, Tea Plantations, Renewable Energy, Agricultural Warehousing and Laboratory Services, Agro-Forestry, Health & Wellness, and Financial Services. Sustainability is embedded across the Group's businesses, and this farm in Uganda is a flagship of that ethos. The RoleAs Nursery Manager, you will lead the end-to-end planning, establishment, and running of plant nurseries across our Uganda operations — from site design through to daily propagation, plant health, and output quality. You'll own propagation via seeds, grafting, budding, cuttings, and layering, build and train nursery teams, and ensure a reliable supply of high-quality planting material for large-scale plantation, agroforestry, and permaculture projects. This is a hands-on, field-based leadership role. Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Planning & Nursery Establishment• Lead the end-to-end planning, design, and establishment of plant nurseries from ground zero, across multiple locations.• Define nursery production strategies aligned with plantation, agroforestry, and permaculture project requirements.• Establish SOPs, quality standards, and best practices for nursery development and plant production. Planning, Monitoring & Reporting• Develop nursery production plans based on project timelines and plantation requirements.• Monitor plant inventory, production cycles, and nursery output; implement tracking systems for plant survival, performance, and quality control.• Provide periodic operational reports and strategic inputs to senior management.Technical Expertise & Plant Production Management• Oversee plant propagation through seeds, grafting, budding, cuttings, layering, and other propagation methods.• Ensure optimal growing media preparation, irrigation management, and nutrient management; implement integrated pest and disease management systems.• Ensure production of high-quality planting material suitable for large-scale plantation and agroforestry projects.Leadership & Team Development• Build, lead, and manage nursery teams; provide technical training on plant propagation, nursery practices, and plant health management.• Establish performance standards and ensure operational efficiency across all nursery locations.Strategic Contribution & Project Coordination• Work closely with Farm Managers, Agronomists, Permaculture Specialists, and Project Teams.• Support agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, and plantation expansion initiatives.• Contribute to long-term nursery expansion and sustainability strategy.• Ensure nursery operations align with the organization's environmental and sustainability goals. What We're Looking For• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, Nursery Management, or a related field.• 10+ years of experience in nursery development and management.• Proven experience establishing and managing large-scale plant nurseries from scratch.• Strong hands-on expertise in propagation techniques — seeds, grafting, budding, cuttings, and layering.• Strong expertise in nursery infrastructure planning and propagation systems.• Deep knowledge of tropical and subtropical plant species.• Strong leadership and multi-location team management capability.• Excellent planning, organizational, and operational management skills.• Ability to design and scale nursery systems for large plantation and agroforestry projects.• Willingness to relocate and work full-time in a field-based environment in Uganda; willingness to travel extensively between sites.
