Purpose of the Job The Payment Operation Expert ensures the efficient and controlled daily operation of the bank’s payment infrastructure, with a strong focus on continuous monitoring, incident management, and rapid resolution of payment-related issues. The role monitors payment flows, identifies and investigates operational deviations, coordinates incident handling and root-cause analysis, and ensures timely escalation and resolution of critical issues. It supports Finance with complex payment issue resolution and drives improvements across systems, processes, monitoring, and controls. The role also leads and contributes to projects, represents Payments in key forums, and collaborates with stakeholders across countries to secure resilient, compliant, efficient, and well-controlled payment operations.

Responsibilities of the Job - Ensure the stable and efficient day-to-day operation of the payment infrastructure, including the timely and accurate execution of incoming and outgoing payments.

Continuously monitor payment flows, systems, and operational processes to identify disruptions, control weaknesses and potential incidents at an early stage. Own and coordinate payment-related incidents from initial identification through investigation, escalation, resolution, and closure, ensuring clear communication and appropriate stakeholder involvement. Support Finance and other relevant functions in analyzing, investigating, and resolving complex or unresolved payment issues, including root-cause analysis and follow-up actions. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders across countries and functions—including Finance, Accounting, AML, Financial Crime, Customer Support, Collections, partners, and technology teams—to resolve incidents and prevent recurrence. Identify recurring issues and operational risks, and drive root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvements to payment processes, systems, monitoring, and controls. Support Team Managers in validating the quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of daily operational activities, including adherence to established controls and procedures. Drive improvement initiatives and contribute to the testing, implementation, and optimization of new systems, tools, monitoring capabilities, and processes. Lead and participate in projects, including developing business cases, defining requirements, coordinating stakeholders, and presenting proposals to key decision-makers. Ensure successful project delivery by tracking progress, managing dependencies and risks, communicating status, and coordinating stakeholder activities. Represent Payments in relevant product meetings and cross-functional forums, providing operational insights and ensuring payment-related risks and requirements are addressed. Maintain and strengthen processes related to operational risk, incident management, anti-money laundering, financial crime, and regulatory compliance. Proactively identify opportunities to improve operational resilience, monitoring, controls, efficiency, digitalization, and customer outcomes, with a strong focus on risk awareness and compliance.

Education Level Bachelor's Degree

Experience/Demonstrated Competencies - 3+ years of working experience in managing payments within a banking environment.

Significant experience with payment processes and systems in banks. Experience participating in project management activities.

Language Competencies Fluency in English and Swedish.

Knowledge required - Working knowledge of banking payment systems, including end-to-end payment flows and file-based processing.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications for analysis, reporting, and stakeholder communication. Hands-on understanding of how incoming and outgoing payment systems operate within a financial institution. Awareness of local and international regulations affecting payments, including operational risk, AML, and financial crime requirements. Understanding of reconciliation principles and how transaction matching, validation, and error handling work. Working knowledge of incident-management processes, including system tickets, escalation paths, and status tracking. Understanding of internal controls and audit requirements relevant to payment operations. Knowledge of project and change management concepts, including system testing, documentation, and implementation steps.

Ability to lead projects from initiation to completion, including coordinating tasks, timelines, and stakeholder input. Able to collaborate across functions, supporting Finance, IT, AML, and operational teams to resolve issues and deliver projects. Ability to facilitate knowledge sharing, helping colleagues understand processes, controls, and improvements within the payments area. Capable of translating business needs into clear payment-process requirements, ensuring new products and systems integrate smoothly into existing payment infrastructure.
