Your role

As a Rock Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring safe and reliable mining operations while supporting the long-term development of Kiruna Mine. You will work closely with mine planners, geologists, rock mechanics specialists, and other technical experts to provide geotechnical expertise for both current operations and future mine expansion projects. A significant part of the role involves contributing to prefeasibility studies for mining below the current main haulage level and helping to shape the future of underground mining.

In This Role, You Will

Develop and review mine layouts, ground support strategies, and geotechnical designs.Collaborate on mine sequencing to ensure safe and reliable production.Provide rock mechanics expertise to Life of Mine planning and future mine development studies.Assess geotechnical risks, support mine design, and evaluate monitoring and instrumentation needs.Deliver operational rock mechanics support through inspections, seismic monitoring, rehabilitation planning, and damage mapping.

In this position, you will combine hands-on operational support with long-term strategic development, helping shape the future of underground mining in Kiruna.

What You Bring

We are looking for someone who is confident in their role, with strong analytical skills and a collaborative approach to solving complex challenges in rock mechanics and underground mining. You are an engaged and communicative team player who listens actively to others and thrives in a dynamic environment where safety, innovation, and continuous improvement are central to success.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or geoscience discipline.Experience working in underground mining environments.Experience from underground caving operations or similar mining methods.Fluency in English, both written and spoken.Valid B driver's license.

Meritorious

Experience in seismic analysis.Experience with numerical modelling.Experience in project management.Knowledge of Swedish.
