Storage Engineer

About the roleWe're recruiting on behalf of one of Europe's fastest-growing AI cloud companies, and, unusually for this space, one that's already profitable. Our client runs a full EU-based cloud platform on 100% renewable energy, with data centres in the Nordics, serving some of the most demanding GPU and AI workloads around. Storage is the foundation the whole platform sits on. They're growing the storage team and looking for a hands-on engineer to help run the Ceph clusters that hold customer data at petabyte scale. This is an operational, hands-on role. You'll run real production clusters alongside a small, experienced team of senior and principal engineers, with plenty of room to deepen your Ceph and Linux expertise and grow into more scope over time. What you'll doHelp operate large-scale Ceph clusters in production, across object, block and fileWork across the stack the team runs: Ceph on Linux, automated with AnsibleKeep storage healthy, observable and reliable for live GPU and AI workloadsTroubleshoot performance and reliability issues in a distributed storage environmentWork with the compute and networking teams to integrate storage with large GPU clustersTake part in a shared on-call rotation and help improve how the team runs storage What they're looking forAround 3 to 6 years in infrastructure, systems or storage engineeringAt least a year of hands-on Ceph in production (deployment, operations, troubleshooting)Strong Linux fundamentals and comfort with AnsibleHappy to be part of an on-call rotationGood collaboration and communication You don't need to be a career Ceph specialist. If you came to Ceph through OpenStack, or as a Linux systems engineer who has run Ceph clusters hands-on, they'd like to hear from you even if "Ceph engineer" isn't your job title. Nice to haveExperience with RADOS Gateway, RBD or CephFS in productionFamiliarity with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki or similar observability toolsExperience running storage at a cloud provider, or at a large media/SaaS platformFamiliarity with GPU/AI workloads and the storage patterns they generate On-callOn-call is part of this role. It's shared across the team, paid on top of base, and currently sits at roughly once a month, dropping toward around once every six weeks as the team grows.
