Civil Engineer Position: Civil Engineer Type: Contract Compensation: $50–$100/hour Location: Remote About the OpportunityThis opportunity is for experienced Civil Engineers to contribute to advanced AI research and evaluation projects focused on improving how next-generation AI systems understand, reason through, and solve complex real-world engineering problems.In this role, you'll apply your expertise in structural design, transportation engineering, water systems, site development, regulatory compliance, and engineering documentation to create realistic engineering tasks and evaluation materials.No prior AI experience is required. Your civil engineering expertise, technical judgment, and real-world project experience are the primary qualifications for success in this role.ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop authentic civil engineering evaluation tasks based on real-world scenarios involving structural engineering, transportation, water systems, and site development.Create, source, and evaluate technical documentation, including engineering drawings, geotechnical reports, specification sheets, cost estimates, and regulatory code references.Develop complex engineering problems requiring constraint reasoning, geometric analysis, technical judgment, and code compliance.Determine accurate engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, design standards, safety requirements, and project constraints.Develop comprehensive evaluation rubrics to assess technical correctness, engineering reasoning, and adherence to applicable codes.Create and validate realistic engineering datasets and project materials, including CSVs, PDFs, spreadsheets, reports, and technical documentation.Review complex engineering designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and project data for accuracy and consistency.Collaborate with project stakeholders to refine task quality, realism, clarity, and evaluation standards.Required Qualifications5+ years of professional experience working on civil engineering projects.Strong expertise in one or more areas, including structural engineering, transportation engineering, water resources, site development, geotechnical engineering, or infrastructure projects.Strong understanding of engineering design principles, technical documentation, regulatory requirements, and code compliance.Experience preparing, reviewing, or interpreting engineering drawings, reports, specifications, cost estimates, and technical datasets.Ability to analyze complex engineering constraints, design requirements, and real-world project challenges.Experience interpreting and applying relevant engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and communication skills.Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of professional licensure.Experience working across multiple civil engineering disciplines or large-scale infrastructure projects.Strong experience with engineering design software, technical documentation, and project evaluation workflows.Experience preparing or reviewing geotechnical reports, engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and regulatory documentation.Familiarity with AI, machine learning, engineering data annotation, or AI model evaluation.Experience developing technical evaluation frameworks, engineering standards, or quality assurance processes.Experience collaborating with cross-functional or remote engineering teams.CompensationCompetitive compensation of $50–$100/hour.Output-based compensation tied to completed tasks that meet project specifications.Independent contractor engagement.Minimum task submission requirements may apply.Application ProcessEasy Apply on LinkedInComplete the required screening questionsParticipate in the evaluation or interview stageHiring team reviewStart Timeline & AvailabilitySelected candidates may be expected to begin their first tasks within 24–48 hours after completing onboarding, depending on project requirements and availability.
