Design Manager – Underground Services / CivilsSalary: €140,000 – €160,000 + packageLocation: [Insert Location]Sector: Civil Engineering / InfrastructureOur client, a leading civil engineering subcontractor, is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to take responsibility for the design management of a major underground services package.This is a key role within the project team, requiring someone who understands the relationship between design, programme, contract and construction and is comfortable taking ownership of the design process from RIBA Stage 3 through to Stage 5.The project involves significant underground services and associated civils works, with an external design house, Vertex, responsible for the design. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating the design process, ensuring information is delivered in line with the construction programme and contractual requirements.The RoleYou will take ownership of the design management process, acting as the key interface between the project team, external designers, client and construction teams.Key responsibilities will include:Managing design development through Stages 3, 4 and 5.Ensuring design information is aligned with the construction programme and contract requirements.Establishing and maintaining an effective design tracker and design management process.Monitoring design deliverables, approvals, RFIs, technical queries and outstanding information.Identifying design risks, interfaces and potential programme impacts at an early stage.Coordinating design information with procurement and construction activities.Working closely with the Project Manager, Commercial Manager and Site Team.Managing technical interfaces associated with underground services and civils packages.Ensuring designs are buildable, coordinated and suitable for construction.Supporting the resolution of technical issues throughout delivery.Experience RequiredWe are looking for an experienced Design Manager with a strong civils and underground services background.You should have a proven track record of working on complex infrastructure or major civils projects and be comfortable operating in a subcontractor environment.Experience should include:Underground services and utilitiesCivil engineering and reinforced concrete worksConcrete slabs and technical slabsReinforcement and associated detailingService pockets, penetrations and interfacesBelow-ground structures and associated civilsManaging external design consultantsDesign management through Stages 3–5Working to demanding construction programmesUnderstanding the relationship between design, contract and programmeImportantly, you will be someone who understands construction rather than simply managing drawings.
