About this opportunity:Our Client is seeking an experienced DevOps/Cloud Engineer to support a large-scale migration from Apigee X to Kong for a high-traffic platform processing billions of API requests.You will help design and build multi-region infrastructure on Amazon Web Services, implement observability, and ensure a smooth, zero-downtime transition of production traffic. This is a highly infrastructure-focused role involving traffic routing, system reliability, and phased environment rollouts.This role is strongly focused on SRE/DevOps at scale rather than application development, and experience operating very large-scale systems is critical. Current Scope Plan:This role supports a large-scale migration from Apigee X to Kong for a high-traffic platform running billions of API requests on Amazon Web Services. The migration is executed in phased stages over multiple environments:Infrastructure setup: Build multi-region AWS-based Kong infrastructure, migrate existing API proxies, and establish monitoring, logging, and load testing frameworks.Identity & key integration: Integrate the existing key management system with Kong and prepare safe migration and rollback mechanisms.Lower environment rollout (Dev & QA): Validate functionality, performance, and analytics integration while gradually introducing partial traffic routing.Staged production rollout (Stage & Prod): Migrate users and keys at scale, progressively shift API traffic (partial to full), and validate system stability under production load.Full traffic cutover: Transition all API traffic from Apigee to Kong via controlled routing and DNS changes across environments.Decommissioning: Fully remove Apigee dependencies once migration is complete and traffic is stable on Kong. Tasks & Deliverables:Build and manage multi-region infrastructure for Kong on Amazon Web ServicesMigrate APIs and traffic from Apigee X to KongDefine and execute traffic cutover strategies with minimal downtimeImplement monitoring, logging, and load testing to ensure performance and reliabilitySupport rollout across dev, QA, stage, and production environments Required Skills & Experience:Strong background in DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Engineering in high-scale environmentsHands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (networking, scaling, security)Experience with API gateways (e.g., Kong, Apigee X)Proven experience operating very large-scale, high-traffic distributed systemsSolid understanding of traffic routing, load balancing, and system reliability Nice to Have:Experience with cross-cloud setups (AWS + GCP)Familiarity with ELK stack or similar observability toolsExperience with large-scale API migrations or gateway transitionsExposure to key management systems and API security practices Project DetailsLong term contractCompletely remoteWorking hours in alignment with CET
