Postdoctoral Researcher
QMAT - The Centre of Excellence in Quantum Materials
The Department of Physics is seeking to recruit a motivated Postdoctoral researcher to work in the theory projects within the Centre of Excellence in Quantum Materials. The research will be guided by Professor Tero Heikkilä and Research Fellow Stefan Ilić at the Condensed Matter Theory group at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. The position will start at earliest on the 1st December 2026 or as agreed for a fixed term of 2 years, with a possible extension to a third year. The project is funded by the Centre of Excellence in Quantum Materials (QMAT) and will be carried out in close collaboration with the experimental and theory groups within the Centre. Broadly, the project will investigate mesoscopic phenomena arising from the interplay of superconductivity with other correlated states and orders, with particular emphasis on their electrical, radio-frequency, and optical responses. The specific research directions will be chosen in connection with ongoing activities within QMAT and may include, but are not limited to:cavity effects on superconductivity;superconducting LEDs and other superconductor–semiconductor hybrid devices;ferroelectric Josephson junctions;interplay of superconductivity with multiferroics and textured magnets;parafermion physics arising from the coupling of superconductors to fractional quantum Hall edge states. The theoretical framework will be based primarily on Keldysh path-integral and nonequilibrium Green-function methods, complemented by numerical approaches based on tensor networks. We look forward to receiving your application in our recruitment system by 1st November 2026. Applications sent via email are not considered. For further information, please contact Professor Tero Heikkilä (tero.t.heikkila@jyu.fi) or Research Fellow Stefan Ilić (stefan.d.ilic@jyu.fi).
