Senior Azure Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer (DevOps)Location: Remote, Europe (EU and non-EU)Working hours: Full-time, 9:00–17:00 US Eastern TimeStart: ASAP Engagement: Full-time freelance contract About the roleOur client, a US-based organisation, is looking for a strong senior Azure engineer to build and run their Microsoft cloud environment from the ground up. You'll own the full stack: the Azure platform built as code, Microsoft 365 and identity, and hybrid connectivity back to on-premises. This is a hands-on role for someone who has done it before and can work independently from day one. What you'll doBuild a new Azure environment from scratch: management groups, subscriptions, Azure Policy, RBAC/PIM, Log Analytics and Microsoft Defender, all deployed with Bicep or Terraform through GitHub pipelines.Set up Microsoft 365 and identity: Entra ID with cloud sync from on-premises AD, Intune, Conditional Access and Windows Hello, and migrate SharePoint and OneDrive.Design and troubleshoot hybrid networking: Azure VPN Gateway with BGP over multiple circuits, a hub-and-spoke topology with a FortiGate firewall, and fixing latency, jitter and asymmetric routing issues.Deliver application and data workloads: Azure Functions with VNet integration, Key Vault, Azure Virtual Desktop, and moving a database and its clients across a WAN, including replication, performance testing, cutover and rollback.Administer Windows server instances. What we're looking for6–7+ years of experience in Microsoft infrastructure and Azure engineering.Proven experience building Azure environments end to end with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep or Terraform) and GitHub Actions.Strong hands-on Entra ID, Intune and Conditional Access experience in hybrid environments.Solid networking skills: VPNs, BGP, hub-and-spoke and firewall integration (FortiGate preferred).Able to work US Eastern hours full-time and available to start immediately.No planned leave during the first two months of the engagement.Fluent English. Nice to haveCertifications such as AZ-104, AZ-700, AZ-305, SC-300, MD-102, Terraform Associate or Fortinet NSE4.Previous experience working with US clients on US hours.A background in a Microsoft partner or MSP environment.
