Senior HIL Rig System Engineer
We are looking for an experienced HIL Rig System Engineer who has a strong background in hands-on HIL rig development and has progressed into technical system ownership and rig management.The role combines a solid understanding of HIL hardware, software, ECU integration and test automation with responsibility for coordinating rig activities, maintaining system readiness, managing technical issues and supporting verification teams. Key ResponsibilitiesTake technical ownership of HIL rigs and related verification environments.Manage the complete rig lifecycle, including planning, configuration, upgrades, maintenance and decommissioning.Coordinate rig requirements, priorities, availability and delivery plans with verification and development teams.Ensure that rigs are operational, correctly configured and ready for planned test activities.Support the integration of ECUs, sensors, actuators, communication networks and simulation models.Coordinate software, hardware and configuration updates across the rig environment.Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex rig, ECU, network and software-integration issues.Define and maintain rig architecture, interfaces, signal mapping, I/O configuration and technical documentation.Support rest-bus simulation, fault injection and requirements-based system verification.Improve test automation frameworks and integrate rig execution with CI/CD pipelines.Manage technical dependencies involving internal teams, suppliers and external stakeholders.Support test planning, release validation and technical decision-making.Establish processes for change management, configuration management, access control and rig usage.Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance on HIL development, automation and system verification.Drive continuous improvements in rig stability, utilization, maintainability and test efficiency.Required QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechatronics or a related field.At least 8–10 years of experience in automotive embedded systems, HIL development, integration or system verification.Previous hands-on experience developing, commissioning and maintaining HIL rigs.Recent experience with technical ownership, rig coordination, system management or verification leadership.Strong knowledge of Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, vTESTstudio and CAPL.Experience with HIL platforms such as dSPACE, Vector VT System, ETAS, NI PXI or equivalent.Experience integrating and validating ECUs, sensors, actuators and vehicle-network interfaces.Knowledge of CAN, CAN FD, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, UDS and DoIP.Experience with Python and/or other automation languages such as C#, MATLAB or CAPL.Understanding of AUTOSAR, embedded software and automotive electrical architectures.Experience with Git, Jenkins, GitLab CI or similar CI/CD and configuration-management tools.Strong troubleshooting, fault-analysis and root-cause-analysis capabilities.Fluent English with strong stakeholder-management and communication skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience from Volvo Cars, Volvo Group or another automotive OEM or Tier-1 supplier.Experience with ADAS, active safety, radar, parking-assistance or vehicle-platform verification.Knowledge of ISO 26262, ASPICE and automotive V-model development.Experience managing suppliers and coordinating distributed engineering teams.Familiarity with SIL, MIL, vehicle-level testing and cloud-connected test environments.Personal AttributesStructured and comfortable taking technical ownership.Able to move between detailed troubleshooting and system-level coordination.Proactive, collaborative and solution-oriented.Capable of managing multiple priorities and technical dependencies.Strong at communicating technical issues to engineers, project leaders and stakeholders.
