Senior HSE Manager / HSE Lead – Google Data Centre Project

📍 Location: Västerås, Sweden🏗️ Project: Google Data Centre Construction Project📅 Start Date: ASAP📆 Contract Duration: Until Summer 2027, with potential extension💼 Employment Type: Project-Based Contract About the Project We are urgently seeking an experienced Senior HSE Manager / HSE Lead to join a major Google hyper-scale data centre construction project in Västerås, Sweden. This is a senior, site-based leadership role responsible for driving Health, Safety & Environmental performance across a large-scale, complex construction programme. The successful candidate will work closely with project management, contractors and client representatives to ensure the highest HSE standards are maintained throughout all phases of construction. Key Responsibilities Lead the HSE function across a major data centre construction project.Provide visible and proactive safety leadership on site.Promote a strong safety culture across contractors and project teams.Ensure compliance with Swedish HSE legislation and project-specific requirements.Conduct regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.Review and approve RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements).Monitor contractor HSE performance and ensure corrective actions are implemented.Lead incident investigations and root-cause analysis.Prepare detailed incident reports and implement preventative measures.Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings.Support Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems and high-risk activities.Monitor compliance across:Working at HeightLifting OperationsTemporary WorksExcavationsElectrical SafetyConfined Space EntryHot WorksHeavy Plant OperationsProduce weekly and monthly HSE reports and KPI dashboards.Liaise with clients, contractors and regulatory authorities as required.Mentor junior HSE professionals and support continuous improvement initiatives. Candidate Requirements We are looking for candidates with:Significant HSE leadership experience on large-scale construction projects.Previous data centre construction experience – highly preferred.Experience working on hyperscale, mission-critical, industrial or major infrastructure projects.Strong knowledge of construction risk management and contractor safety.Experience managing multiple subcontractors within complex construction environments.Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.Proven experience conducting:Site inspections and HSE auditsIncident investigationsRAMS reviewsToolbox talksSafety trainingAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment. Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are advantageous:Swedish BAS-P & BAS-U certification – preferred, but not essentialNEBOSH Diploma / NEBOSH International DiplomaNEBOSH Construction CertificateIOSH Managing Safely or equivalentISO 45001 Lead AuditorFirst Aid certificationOther recognized Health & Safety qualifications Additional Requirements Knowledge of Swedish Health & Safety legislation and construction regulations.Previous experience working in Sweden is highly desirable.Full driving license preferred.Ability to work collaboratively with international project teams.Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.Legal right to work in Sweden.
