Your role

As a Technical Specialist in AI-Assisted Software Engineering, you will play an important role in shaping how AI transforms our software engineering practices, products, and business. In this role, you will drive the evolution of the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements engineering and architecture to implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. You will act as a subject matter expert, bridging state-of-the-art AI technologies with the practical realities of developing complex, high-quality software systems.

As a technical specialist you will provide both strategic leadership and hands-on technical guidance, helping teams evaluate, adopt, and scale AI-assisted engineering practices. Working closely with developers, architects, engineering and product leaders, you will identify opportunities to improve productivity, code quality, knowledge sharing, and development effectiveness. You will also engage externally with industry peers, technology partners, and academic institutions to stay at the forefront of innovation and bring new insights and best practices into the organization.

You will be a part of the Saab Surveillance Design organization, which supplies world-leading platforms that support rapid development and integration of new capabilities and work with teams across the organization to meet our customers' evolving needs in the field of sensors.

The main purpose with the Specialist role is to act as a technical leader within the designated technical area. That means, to drive the development of the technical area, anticipating future trends and directions, understanding risks and opportunities and most important of all - drive and advocate for necessary change.

External and international relations are essential parts to gather insights, co-create and increase knowledge. This includes relations with academia, partners as well as customers.

While assigned to a specific line organization, Specialists work for the benefit of Saab as a whole. Appointments are made for a three-year term (2026-2028), with at least 20% of your time dedicated to specialist activities.

As part of the Specialist program, you will meet and interact with other specialists at Saab. Every year there is an inspirational Surveillance Specialist Day, and you will also have the opportunity to engage in mentorship programs and courses to enhance your skills and knowledge.

You will develop and maintain a written specialist plan, outlining your vision and strategy for your technical area, in dialogue with your manager and other stakeholders. You regularly communicate your plan and vision, to inspire, share insights and push boundaries.

We are looking for a senior software engineering professional with a strong passion for artificial intelligence and a proven ability to drive change in complex technical environments. You combine deep software engineering expertise with a forward-looking understanding of how artificial intelligence can transform the way software is designed, developed, tested, and maintained. As a Technical Specialist, you bring a strong understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic AI systems, and the rapidly evolving AI tooling landscape. Beyond technical expertise, you have a pragmatic and results-oriented mindset. You can assess new technologies critically, identify practical applications, and translate technical innovations into measurable value for engineering teams and the business.

You are a curious and collaborative engineer who enjoys learning, sharing insights, and being inspired by others. You communicate in ways that create understanding and drive positive change, while developing both your own competence and that of those around you. You may already take the lead in some situations, or be ready to grow into it, and you enjoy supporting others in contributing and developing.

You take an interest in understanding the broader business context, including customers, competitors, products, priorities, and financial considerations. As a specialist, you will contribute your expertise and perspective to driving the transformation and competitiveness of our Surveillance capabilities.
