Cavendish Professionals is working with an ambitious, product-led technology company looking to hire a Technical Project Manager with a strong Software Engineering background. This is not a traditional Project Manager or Engineering Lead role. We are looking for someone who has spent the majority of their career as a hands-on Software Engineer, but has naturally gravitated towards taking greater ownership of planning, coordination and delivery. You may already be the engineer who ends up running planning sessions, breaking down complex projects, identifying dependencies, improving processes and making sure work actually gets shipped. The role offers the opportunity to make that a much bigger part of your remit while remaining closely connected to highly technical engineering work. The Role: You will work closely with Software Engineers and technical stakeholders to improve how complex engineering projects are planned, coordinated and delivered. Your responsibilities will include: Taking ownership of technical projects from initial planning through to delivery and adoption.Breaking complex engineering initiatives into clear, manageable pieces of work.Coordinating priorities, dependencies and timelines across engineering projects.Identifying blockers and delivery risks early and proactively driving solutions.Supporting and improving quarterly engineering planning and roadmap processes.Ensuring projects move beyond design and development through reviews, deployment, fixes and successful completion.Improving engineering processes without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.Building or introducing tooling and automation where it can improve engineering workflows.Maintaining clear written documentation, ownership and transparent task tracking.Working closely with highly technical engineers and domain experts without needing formal management authority.Helping engineering teams operate more effectively as the organisation continues to grow. What We Are Looking For We are particularly interested in candidates with:Approximately 6–10 years of Software Engineering experience.A strong hands-on background building and operating production software.Experience working collaboratively on shared codebases, including code reviews, CI/CD and production releases.Experience within ambitious software, product, startup or scale-up environments.Evidence of taking ownership beyond your individual engineering responsibilities.Informal experience coordinating projects, planning engineering work or operating as a Tech Lead.A track record of driving projects through to completion, rather than simply designing or starting them.Strong organisational and written communication skills. The confidence to identify and raise risks, blockers or concerns even when all the information is not yet available.A proactive approach to improving processes, tooling and ways of working. The ability to operate effectively alongside deep technical/domain experts while being comfortable learning unfamiliar areas. You should have a strong and varied Software Engineering background. The wider engineering environment includes technologies such as:RustTypeScript / ReactTerraformKubernetes Experience working across different programming languages and the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar technical environments would be particularly valuable. What This Role Is Not: This is not a people-management position and there are no direct reports. It is also not intended for traditional Project Managers without a meaningful Software Engineering background. We are looking for someone who wants to increase their ownership of how engineering work gets planned and delivered, while retaining the technical understanding required to work effectively with strong engineers. This could be particularly well suited to a Senior Software Engineer or Tech Lead who has discovered that they enjoy the coordination, planning and delivery aspects of their role and wants to take the next step in that direction. Cavendish (Recruitment) Professionals Ltd is proud to be an equal opportunities employer, and we believe that inclusion starts with the applicant. All qualified candidates will be considered for employment regardless of gender, race, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief.
