AI Engineer - Build Production AI at Scale Stockholm | Permanent Build AI that actually gets used. We're looking for a hands-on AI Engineer to join a small central AI team at a major Nordic consumer business. This isn't a role where you'll spend your time writing requirements for someone else to build.You'll work directly with product teams and business stakeholders, help decide what is actually worth building, challenge ideas when needed, prototype quickly and then write the code to turn those ideas into production systems. If you enjoy the space between software engineering, AI and real business problems, this could be a very interesting role. What are you actually going to build? The team already has a growing pipeline of AI projects across the business. Current and upcoming work includes: Customer-facing conversational AI with the potential to reach millions of users.Semantic search and retrieval using modern embedding and vector technologies.Internal AI assistants helping thousands of employees access knowledge.AI-powered content production at significant scale.Image generation and processing for campaigns and digital content.Internal platforms that make it easier for teams to build and deploy AI-powered applications. The technology isn't fixed. The team takes a pragmatic approach to AI - using whatever works best for the problem rather than forcing everything through one framework or vendor. You'll have the freedom to experiment, prototype, rip things apart and rebuild them when necessary. This is the important bit.We're not looking for a traditional Data Scientist.We're looking for someone who can combine:Strong software engineering + modern AI + product judgement. You should be comfortable going from:“The business wants this…”to:“Here's what I think we should actually build…”to:“I've built it — let's get it into production.”You'll work closely with product owners, stakeholders and other engineers throughout that process. What you'll bringWe're looking for someone who has:Experience delivering real AI solutions, not just prototypes or experiments.Strong Python/software engineering skills.Experience building backend services and APIs.Good understanding of modern LLM and Generative AI technologies.Experience working with real-world data using SQL, Pandas or similar tools.The confidence to communicate directly with stakeholders.The technical judgement to push back when there is a better solution.A genuine hands-on attitude — you like building things yourself. Your previous job title isn't particularly important. If you've used Pinecone rather than Qdrant, LangGraph rather than another agent framework, or AWS rather than another cloud platform, that's fine. Strong engineering fundamentals transfer.
