Senior Azure Data Architect – GenAI / RAG / Agentic Data Layer - Freelance The roleOur client needs a senior Azure Data Architect to own the data layer behind GenAI, RAG and Agentic AI applications. This is not a hands-on LLM or agent development role. The focus is designing how enterprise data and knowledge are ingested, prepared, stored, governed and made available for retrieval and AI use, alongside modernising the existing Azure data platform. Must-havesSenior, enterprise-level Azure Data Architecture experience, recent and hands-onAzure Cosmos DB: essential, with real project depthAzure Synapse Analytics: strong and current, with clear personal design ownershipProven production experience designing the data architecture behind a RAG, GenAI or Agentic AI application (personal ownership, not just involvement)AI-ready data architecture, including data preparation for retrieval and hands-on use of storage/vector-search technologiesStructured and genuinely unstructured dataMetadata/configuration-driven ingestion and scalable platform designStrong data modelling, architecture ownership and modernisation of existing platformsImplementation-ready architecture (designs delivery teams can build from) Nice-to-havesAzure DatabricksAzure Data FactoryAzure SQL MI / SQL Server / T-SQLAzure Data Lake / Lakehouse architectureAzure Functions Interviews are happening quickly next week, so please apply into the role to discuss this further!
