AfriPay is building cross-border payment infrastructure for African businesses and individuals, making it easier to move, receive, hold, and spend money across borders.

The company is focused on challenges including fragmented payment systems, expensive foreign exchange, limited access to global financial infrastructure, and the complexity of cross-border transactions. AfriPay is preparing for its next fundraising round and is seeking a finance leader to join the founding team.

The Role

The Chief Financial Officer / Co-Founder will be a core member of the founding team, responsible primarily for leading AfriPay’s next capital raise, developing investor relationships, and supporting the company’s financial and strategic growth.

The role is positioned as a founder-level opportunity rather than a traditional salaried CFO position, with significant ownership across fundraising, finance, strategy, and the development of the company’s financial infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Investor Relations — 70%

Lead fundraising strategy and execution.Build investor target lists and outreach pipelines.Refine the pitch deck, financial model, and data room.Source and engage angels, VCs, DFIs, family offices, and strategic investors.Lead investor conversations, negotiations, and closing.Build long-term investor relationships across Africa, Europe, and the US.

Finance & Strategy — 20%

Own unit economics, valuation, and cap-table strategy.Drive financial planning and modelling.Support Board and investor reporting.Help shape expansion, regulatory, and revenue strategies.

Post-Raise Leadership — 10%

Build and lead AfriPay’s finance function as the company scales.Establish the financial infrastructure required for the next stage of growth.

Demonstrated experience personally leading or significantly contributing to an equity or debt raise.Strong understanding of SAFEs, convertible notes, term sheets, and investor negotiations.Existing relationships with African-focused VCs, angels, DFIs, family offices, or strategic investors.Experience in fintech, payments, banking, mobile money, financial services, or emerging markets.Comfortable with ambiguity, ownership, risk, and building from zero.Founder-oriented mindset and willingness to take significant ownership.

Preferred Qualifications

MBA or Master’s in Finance/Economics.Previous founder experience.Experience at a high-growth African fintech.Investment banking or top-tier consulting experience.Experience raising debt, venture debt, or blended finance in emerging markets.
