Company Description Lumen is building a humanitarian response app designed from the survivor’s perspective, optimized for use even when devices are low on battery and have no data connectivity. The platform focuses on individuals on the ground who may not know where their next meal is coming from, prioritizing clarity, reliability, and ease of use in crisis situations. Survivors can request help via SMS when internet access is unavailable, ensuring support pathways remain open in severely disrupted environments. The app also provides a live map of nearby active ration points, helping people quickly locate essential resources. Lumen’s mission is to leverage technology to make emergency aid more accessible, coordinated, and user-centered. Role Description As a Technical Co/founder at Lumen, you will lead the technical vision and architecture of the humanitarian response platform while collaborating closely with the founding team on product strategy and roadmap. In this full-time, on-site role based in Stockholm, you will design and build resilient backend and mobile solutions that work reliably in low-connectivity environments, including SMS-based flows and mapping features. You will oversee the technical stack selection, set coding standards, and implement development best practices to ensure security, scalability, and maintainability. Your day-to-day responsibilities include hands-on coding, reviewing contributions from other developers, integrating third-party APIs, and continuously improving performance and reliability based on real-world feedback. You will also participate in fundraising and partner discussions as the technical representative, contribute to hiring and mentoring future technical team members, and help shape a mission-driven, inclusive engineering culture. Qualifications Strong backend and mobile development skills, with experience designing and building production systems that can operate in low-connectivity or offline-first environments.Proficiency in working with SMS gateways, APIs, and data integration tools to support communication and mapping features under constrained conditions.Experience with cloud infrastructure, system architecture, and security best practices for applications handling sensitive user data.Ability to lead technical strategy, including stack selection, code quality standards, and long-term scalability planning in a startup context.Comfort collaborating closely with non-technical founders, translating user needs into product requirements, and iterating quickly based on field feedback.Prior background in humanitarian tech, social impact projects, crisis response, or other mission-driven products is highly beneficial.Experience building or leading small engineering teams, including mentoring, hiring, and establishing inclusive and supportive working practices.Fluency in English and the ability to work on-site in Stockholm; additional language skills relevant to humanitarian contexts are a plus.
