Contract Type: B2B Contract (Full-Time)Location: Fully Remote - Open to candidates across EuropeDuration: 12 months (view to extend)Rate: Competitive daily rate (DOE) About the RoleWe're looking for an experienced Elasticsearch Engineer to join a growing technical team on a 12-month B2B contract. This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in Europe, working within a modern search and data infrastructure environment. You'll play a key role in designing, scaling, and optimising Elasticsearch clusters, with a strong focus on data ingestion pipelines feeding into search infrastructure. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, deploy, and maintain Elasticsearch clusters at scale, ensuring performance, reliability, and availabilityBuild and optimise data ingestion pipelines (e.g. Logstash, Beats, Kafka, or custom ETL) to feed structured and unstructured data into ElasticsearchDevelop and tune index mappings, sharding strategies, and query performance for large datasetsMonitor cluster health, manage capacity planning, and troubleshoot performance bottlenecksImplement data pipeline observability, ensuring ingestion accuracy, latency, and throughput are within SLAsCollaborate with backend, data engineering, and DevOps teams to integrate Elasticsearch into wider data architectureContribute to search relevance tuning and query optimisation as neededSupport security, backup/restore, and disaster recovery practices for search infrastructure Required Skills & ExperienceProven hands-on experience running Elasticsearch in production environmentsStrong experience with data ingestion tooling, Logstash, Beats, Kafka, Fluentd, or similarSolid understanding of index design, mapping, sharding, and cluster architectureExperience with scripting/automation (Python, Bash, or similar) for pipeline developmentFamiliarity with monitoring tools (e.g. Elastic Stack/Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus)Comfortable working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)Strong troubleshooting skills across distributed systemsFluent English communication skills; additional European languages a plus given the pan-European team Nice to HaveExperience with Elastic Cloud or self-managed Elasticsearch on KubernetesExposure to OpenSearch as an alternative/forkBackground in high-volume log or event data pipelinesCertifications in Elastic (Elastic Certified Engineer) or relevant cloud platforms What's on OfferFully remote working, open to candidates based anywhere in Europe12-month B2B contract with potential for extensionCompetitive daily rateOpportunity to work on high-impact, large-scale search infrastructure
