Exterior / Interior Studio Engineer – Automotive

Location: Gothenburg, Sweden - on-siteStart date: 1 October 2026Project duration: until 31 March 2027Only Freelancer Design Consulting is looking for an experienced Exterior / Interior Studio Engineer to support the development of technically feasible vehicle design solutions.You will act as the bridge between design and engineering, protecting the original design intent while translating technical, manufacturing and legislative requirements into practical solutions. The work will be performed on-site at an automotive design studio in Sweden. Key responsibilities:Represent the design team and communicate its intent and technical needs within engineeringTranslate engineering requirements and constraints into viable design solutionsExplain key technical and legislative requirements to the design teamDevelop feasible solutions for technically challenging interior and exterior areasCoordinate and document agreements between design and engineeringSupport vehicle development while preserving the intended design directionAssess and document the feasibility of design themesIdentify and escalate critical technical issuesSupport the setup of clay models, including ride height, wheel positioning and seating positionsCollaborate with cross-functional design, engineering and validation teams Requirements:More than 10 years of professional experience in the automotive industryTechnical university degree or equivalent qualificationStrong knowledge of complete-vehicle engineering for both interiors and exteriorsThorough understanding of the complete vehicle-development processExtensive experience in automotive product concepts and component engineeringExperience working on aesthetically sensitive vehicle areasPrevious experience in an automotive design studio is highly desirableAdvanced knowledge of CATIA V5, including solid and surface modellingStrong experience with Teamcenter as an authorWorking knowledge of MS Office and JiraUnderstanding of engineering and validation processes for vehicle components and systemsKnowledge of component manufacturing processes, tooling requirements and lead timesLeadership skills and the ability to take responsibility within cross-functional teamsExcellent communication and teamwork skillsAbility to work effectively both independently and collaborativelyFluent English, written and spokenMandarin would be an advantage Travel requirements:Occasional business travel to AsiaCandidates must be eligible to obtain the necessary business-travel visa Interested candidates can apply by sending an updated CV and indicating their earliest availability and expected hourly rate.
