Freelance Technical Project Manager Microsoft Defender for Endpoint & Identity
6-month assignment | Fully remote | CEST working hours | Rate negotiable For an international enterprise environment, RIXT.IT is looking for a strong Freelance Technical Project Manager to support the deployment of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE) and Microsoft Defender for Identity (MDI) as part of a broader Microsoft E5 security programme. This is not a purely administrative project management role. We are looking for someone who understands the technology, can drive multiple technical workstreams and ensures that deployment plans, runbooks, service documentation and operational processes are ready for production.
THE ASSIGNMENTYou will coordinate the technical configuration, implementation and rollout of MDE and MDI across a complex enterprise landscape. Working closely with Cyber Security, Endpoint Management, Infrastructure, Workplace Services and Microsoft specialists, you will translate technical decisions into executable plans and production-quality documentation. You will keep technical teams aligned, remove blockers and make sure the new security services can be successfully transitioned into operations.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIESDrive the technical MDE and MDI deployment workstreamsCoordinate deployment readiness, pilot activities, testing and rollout executionCreate and maintain detailed deployment plans, technical runbooks and operational documentationDocument installation, onboarding, upgrade, rollback and legacy security tooling removal proceduresDefine prerequisites, dependencies, validation checks and testing criteriaDevelop service design and service transition documentationDefine RACI models, ownership, responsibilities and support processesEstablish exception and exemption processes for unsupported or special-use casesCoordinate activities across Security, Infrastructure, Endpoint Management and Workplace teamsTrack technical risks, issues, dependencies, decisions and deployment progressEnsure documentation, knowledge articles and service artefacts are complete and ready for operational handoverSupport the lead Project Manager and technical specialists by taking ownership of delivery structure, coordination and documentation
WHAT YOU BRINGProven experience as a Technical Project Manager in large-scale security, endpoint or infrastructure deploymentsStrong knowledge of Microsoft Defender for EndpointGood understanding of Microsoft Defender for IdentityExperience with Microsoft E5 security environmentsSolid understanding of endpoint management, identity security, infrastructure and enterprise security operationsAbility to challenge and support architects, engineers and operational teams on technical deliveryDemonstrable experience producing high-quality technical and operational documentationExperience coordinating pilots, testing, phased rollouts and service transitionsStrong stakeholder management skills across international and multidisciplinary teamsA structured, detail-oriented and delivery-focused approachExcellent written and spoken EnglishAvailability to work fully remote during CEST business hours STRONGLY PREFERREDExperience migrating from an existing enterprise EDR platform to Microsoft DefenderExperience with global or multi-country Microsoft Defender deploymentsFamiliarity with Microsoft Intune, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID and hybrid enterprise environmentsExperience defining operating models, support procedures and security service ownershipBackground in regulated, security-sensitive or large corporate environments
