Java Backend Developer (Remote)

Fintech. Ongoing engagement with flexible scope. When someone applies for a loan, a person still sits somewhere and reads through documents to work out what that applicant actually earns and owes. We are removing that step. We turn verified financial data into a structured answer a lender can act on in seconds, and we sell that to banks and consumer lenders.We need one more backend developer. Not full time, and not on a schedule that collides with a day job. The work Most of it is one problem, in many variations: input arrives in a format nobody documented, it is inconsistent, and it changes without warning. Your job is to parse it, validate it, and hand it to our decision logic as something clean and predictable, at volume, without silent failures.Around that sits the ordinary backend work: APIs, data models, tests, deployments, and keeping what you built running.If you find that kind of problem satisfying rather than tedious, you will like this role. We expect you to use several, and to know which one fits which task: writing, debugging, reviewing, documenting. We care about the quality of what ships, not about how it was produced.Clear scope. Work is cut into pieces that fit into limited weekly hours. We would rather give you three well-defined tasks than one vague project. What you needProduction experience with Java and Spring Boot, recently, not five years ago.Demonstrable experience writing custom parsers for structured and semi-structured input, including formats that are undocumented or unreliable.Solid REST API design, relational databases, ORM, unit and integration testing, CI/CD.Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and JWT, and experience integrating third-party identity providers.Enough judgement to notice when something is broken in production before we do.English, written and spoken.You do not need fintech experience. You need to have solved this kind of parsing problem before, in any domain. TermsPaid hourly, rate is set from experience and depth on the parsing side. Process: a short intro call, one paid trial task on a real problem, then a decision. We aim to complete it within two weeks.
