Senior Data Scientist / ML Engineer

Hunome (Hunomics Ltd) is a deliberative intelligence platform — the operating system through which organisations, communities and researchers build genuine shared understanding: structured, preserved as a living map of how a group is thinking, and available to be worked with. We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist / ML Engineer to join our team and help develop new AI and data-driven concepts for our product.

This role is suited to someone who enjoys working on new unusual problems, exploring different approaches, and being able to contribute across the product process from the initial concept through experimentation and into a working product. A high level of responsibility and ownership is essential.

You will work closely with the product team and the technology team to excel in this role.

We are a remote and diverse team of 10. We launched the web-based platform in Q2 2021 as a Free Forever first tier beta. All in the team are working shareholders.

Our collective sensemaking platform helps build multidimensional shared understanding and we analyze and find patterns in that for our members and clients. This is an exciting space for a data scientist to make a positive difference in the world.

You would represent what many would call a great commercially minded senior data scientist, you know what it means to be senior in that role. You are someone who is definitely wanting to make their mark in a startup, you care about what we are aiming to change in the world and you have the mindset to be consistent and persevere. Otherwise it would be just another job.

An immediately salaried 'job' is not what you are after but showcasing your experience in data science within a startup with unique data for the potential for massive return with the team's success (shares are your first reward, once we are funded or have sufficient revenue as we release the Premium tier we all get paid). We make it possible for you to take the first startup step in a part-time role as a working shareholder.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and evaluate new machine learning and AI concepts, from initial idea to production-ready implementation.Work with embeddings, LLMs, and other modern ML techniques to solve complex problems.Design experiments and evaluation methods to understand and improve model performance.Build end-to-end ML solutions, including data preparation, modelling, APIs, and integration into the product.Investigate new technologies and research, and determine how they can be applied to our product.Work closely with product management, design and software engineers to turn ML concepts into reliable product capabilities.Take ownership of ML problems and drive them forward with minimal supervision.

5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or a related field.Strong Python and machine learning skills, with experience using frameworks such as PyTorch, scikit-learn, Langchain or Hugging Face.Practical experience with LLMs, embeddings, semantic search, or information retrieval.Strong ability to work independently while aligning closely with product vision and AI strategy, taking ownership of ambiguous technical problems and driving them from concept to implementation.Experience taking ML ideas from experimentation to working production systems.Experience with FastAPI or similar frameworks for building ML/AI services is a strong advantage.Experience with end-to-end development of ML/AI concepts is highly valued.Experience with cloud infrastructure and production ML systems is a plus.Experience with graph data or graph databases is a plus.

Please note

The team benefits from gaining direct equity, ownership in the company. The basis for gaining that is a minimum of 20hrs per week responsible commitment to have sufficient focus in order to become successful in the role. Once Hunome is ready to pay the salary, you would become 100% focused on the business and salaried. This means that you can build your startup career while continue earning a living in a day job or other part-time work. (NB: a contract with a big IT firm may exclude you from this offer)
