Senior Researcher - Machine Learning & System SecurityHelsinki, Finland | Onsite A global technology and R&D organisation is expanding its research capabilities in Finland, developing advanced technologies across intelligent computing, connected devices, AI and next-generation digital infrastructure. Its research teams work on technically complex problems where machine learning, computer architecture, operating systems and cybersecurity intersect, with research outcomes ultimately influencing products deployed at significant global scale. As part of this environment, they are looking for a Senior Researcher - Machine Learning & System Security to join a specialist security research team in Helsinki. The Senior Researcher - Machine Learning & System Security will investigate how modern AI can address emerging platform and device security challenges, working alongside researchers and engineers across ML, systems and hardware. This is an opportunity for a Senior Researcher -Machine Learning & System Security to conduct genuinely applied research while contributing to technologies that can move from research prototypes into real-world systems. Key ResponsibilitiesResearch and develop ML-based approaches for platform, system and device security.Design and evaluate techniques for anomaly detection, threat identification and behavioural analysis.Investigate security threats across operating systems, embedded platforms and low-level software environments.Build research prototypes using real-world security datasets, system telemetry and execution data.Analyse model performance, robustness, false positives and deployment constraints.Collaborate with multidisciplinary research and engineering teams to translate research into practical security solutions. Required Experience & SkillsEssential:PhD or equivalent research-level expertise in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or a related technical field.Strong research or industry experience applying modern machine learning to real-world problems.Experience in cybersecurity, secure systems, cryptography or security research.Experience with malware detection, intrusion detection, endpoint security or threat intelligence.Experience applying ML to security telemetry, system logs, binaries, network data or low-level execution behaviour.Strong understanding of neural networks, transformer architectures and/or probabilistic machine learning.Strong background in statistics, probabilistic modelling or applied mathematics.Excellent programming and experimental development skills, with Python and relevant ML frameworks.Experience independently designing, implementing and evaluating machine learning experiments.Familiarity with computer architecture, operating systems and systems-level concepts.Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.Excellent written and spoken English. Desirable:Experience with C, C++, Rust or other systems-level programming languages.Knowledge of operating-system internals, kernels, hypervisors, virtualisation, firmware or embedded systems.Understanding of CPU, memory, device or hardware security architectures.Knowledge of anomaly detection or behavioural security analytics.Experience researching software, firmware or hardware attacks.CTF, vulnerability research or security research experience.
