Structural Design Consultant (PM Shaft Generator)

Octagon Professionals is currently recruiting for a Structural Design Consultant (PM Shaft Generator) to join a leading international industrial manufacturer. OverviewIn this role, you will bring global best practices in structural engineering and design verification to help establish a more advanced and systematic approach to PM Shaft Generator design for marine applications. You will work closely with engineering teams to improve structural integrity, diagnose vibration-related issues, and implement robust design standards for next-generation shaft generators.As PM Shaft Generators scale toward higher capacity and output for marine use, the need for advanced structural design, balancing mechanical strength, vibration stability, and long-term reliability, has become increasingly critical. While traditional approaches often rely on conservative safety factors, newer designs introduce more complex fatigue and structural verification challenges. Role Responsibilities• Act as a senior structural design consultant for PM Shaft Generators and large rotating machinery, providing expert evaluation and improvement recommendations for existing models.• Analyse structural strength, dynamic behaviour, and vibration stability of the rotor assembly under operational and high-speed conditions.• Diagnose root causes of internal defects and field issues related to structural reliability, proposing effective corrective actions and design improvements.• Establish and implement structural design standards and comprehensive engineering guidelines aligned with global best practices.• Support the development of advanced design verification methodologies, including FEM-based simulation and validation of structural performance.• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure design improvements are effectively integrated into product development and manufacturing processes.• Provide clear technical guidance, reports, and recommendations to stakeholders, supporting decision-making and long-term engineering strategy. Essential Skills and Experience• Extensive hands-on experience in rotor mechanical structural design and development of PM Shaft Generators for marine applications.• Deep expertise in structural design, structural strength evaluation, dynamic analysis, and fatigue assessment.• Strong experience in identifying and resolving vibration and structural reliability issues in rotating systems.• Proven ability to conduct technical analysis and translate findings into practical design improvements.• Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to lead technical discussions and advisory activities across international teams.• Senior-level technical leadership experience or equivalent expertise in complex engineering environments. Desirable Skills and Experience• Experience working with or alongside leading global shaft generator manufacturers • Background in rotor structure and dynamic characteristic evaluation for large motors and generators.• Experience performing root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions for rotor system vibration issues.• Familiarity with modern engineering tools and methodologies for FEM-based simulation, validation, and structural optimisation.
