Substance & Chemical Compliance Engineer - Fixed term (parental leave)

Are you looking to leverage your expertise in chemistry and materials science to shape the future of sustainable products? We are seeking an experienced Substance & Chemical Compliance Engineer for a 14-month parental leave replacement to join our Quality, Environment & Product Compliance department.

As a Compliance Engineer, you will serve as a key subject matter expert in substance, material, and chemical compliance. You will evaluate the impact of new and emerging legislation, assess compliance risks and opportunities, and support the business in translating regulatory requirements into practical, sustainable solutions.

You will collaborate closely with local chemical coordinators at manufacturing, testing, and verification sites to support chemical management and continuously improve operational practices. Additionally, you will join a cross-functional network of specialists working proactively to identify, assess, and phase out substances of concern across the product portfolio, helping shape the materials and technologies of the future.

Act as a specialist within substance, material, and chemical compliance.Assess the technical and business impact of existing and emerging chemical legislation.Assist product development projects in demonstrating compliance with legal substance and material requirements.Review supplier declarations, material data, and technical documentation to support product declarations and declarations of conformity.Support and advance chemical management processes alongside local chemical coordinators.Participate in cross-functional teams to identify and phase out substances of concern while implementing sustainable alternatives.Support stakeholders across engineering, purchasing, supplier quality, manufacturing, testing, and sustainability functions.

Required Criteria

University degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.At least 5 years of professional experience in substance compliance, material compliance, chemical management, or a similar domain.In-depth knowledge of key regulations such as REACH, RoHS, TSCA, CLP, POPs, or equivalent regulatory frameworks.Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
