Embedded Software Engineer

Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer IILocation: Abu Dhabi (UAE) Job Purpose: A leading aerospace and propulsion technology company is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer II to develop and maintain embedded software for Engine Control Units (ECUs), Motor Generator Units (MGUs), and related control systems. This role will implement real-time control software and low-level drivers, support testing from unit level through hardware-in-the-loop and system integration, and work closely with systems, controls, hardware, test, and quality teams throughout development and integration. Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain embedded software for Engine Control Units (ECUs), Motor Generator Units (MGUs), and related control systemsImplement real-time control and embedded software functionsDevelop and integrate low-level drivers for MCU/DSP peripherals including ADC, PWM, timers, DMA, SPI, I2C, and UARTDevelop software for RTOS-based and bare-metal embedded systemsImplement and integrate communication interfaces such as CAN/CAN-FD, RS-422/485, ARINC 429, and EthernetSupport software requirements, design documentation, and requirements traceability activitiesPerform unit, integration, and hardware/software integration testingSupport bench, HIL, and system-level testing activitiesDebug and troubleshoot embedded software and hardware/software interface issuesAnalyze test results and support software improvements and corrective actionsFollow software configuration management, coding, review, and verification processesWork closely with systems, controls, hardware, test, and quality teams throughout development and integration Required Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer, Electronics, Electrical, Software Engineering, or a related fieldTypically 4–5 years of hands-on experience in embedded software developmentGood knowledge of C/C++ for embedded systemsExperience with ARM Cortex-M/R, DSP, or similar microcontroller architecturesExperience with bare-metal and/or RTOS-based embedded softwareExperience with peripheral drivers and low-level hardware interfacesExperience with embedded communication protocols such as CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, RS-422/485, or EthernetExperience with debugging tools such as JTAG/SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzersExperience with version control systems such as Git and software development/configuration management practicesFamiliarity with requirements engineering and software traceabilityUnderstanding of real-time embedded software concepts and deterministic timing Advantageous: Experience with ECU, MGU, motor control, engine control, or other real-time control systemsFamiliarity with DO-178C software development and verification processesFamiliarity with MISRA-C and safety-critical software development practicesExperience with HIL and hardware/software integration testingFamiliarity with MATLAB/Simulink or model-based developmentFamiliarity with aerospace or defense embedded software developmentBasic knowledge of ARP4754A / ARP4761 or related system safety processes N.B This role is based in Abu Dhabi.
