We're now looking for a senior Energy Market Trading & Strategy Expert; this is a contract position and 100% remote from Europe. Responsibilities:1. Energy Market Rules & Policy InterpretationMaster the structure and trading rules of the major European power markets, with a focus on core markets including Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain and the Nordics (plus Great Britain where relevant). Analyse day-ahead and intraday markets (SDAC/SIDC coupling via EPEX SPOT, Nord Pool, OMIE, GME), balancing and ancillary service markets (FCR, aFRR, mFRR, including the PICASSO and MARI platforms), national capacity mechanisms, and long-term transmission rights allocated via JAO.Track regulatory developments from the European Commission, ACER and national regulators (e.g. BNetzA, CRE, ARERA, CNMC). Analyse the impact of EU and national policy, including the Electricity Market Design reform, REMIT, and the Renewable Energy Directive, on renewable integration, price formation, flexibility remuneration and support schemes, and deliver compliance and opportunity analysis reports.Compare rule differences across national markets and bidding zones to support project site selection and market entry strategy. 2. Trading Strategy Formulation & ExecutionDevelop full-scenario trading strategies covering PPAs, forward and futures contracts (e.g. EEX), day-ahead and intraday spot trading, and balancing/ancillary services. Optimise the trading portfolio to balance revenue and risk.Analyse supply-demand fundamentals, cross-border flows and price volatility to anticipate market opportunities and increase trading profitability. 3. Business EnablementWork with product and sales teams to turn market rules and trading expertise into commercial value, supporting the design of new business models such as flexibility aggregation and virtual power plants.Document trading methodologies, build a European power market knowledge base, run rule training for internal teams, and provide trading support across departments. Your profile includes:1. EducationBachelor's degree or above in Power Systems, Energy Economics, Financial Engineering, Economics, or a related field. 2. Core Experience3+ years of hands-on experience in European power trading, with a proven track record of independently managing positions in at least one major European market.Deep knowledge of European market design, including day-ahead and intraday markets, balancing markets and capacity mechanisms.Experience with Guarantees of Origin (GOs) and PPA structuring is a plus. 3. Professional CompetenciesStrong quantitative skills, with the ability to build market models and optimise strategies independently.Solid understanding of settlement and imbalance mechanisms (including BRP responsibilities and 15-minute settlement periods), with the financial acumen to calculate trading revenue and risk exposure accurately.Working knowledge of the REMIT, MiFID II and EMIR compliance frameworks.Ability to engage with TSOs, exchanges, regulators and market partners across multiple European countries. Fluent English required; German, French, Italian or Spanish is a strong plus. 4. Competency RequirementsSharp market insight and the ability to make fast decisions under pressure in response to price and policy moves.Rigorous logic and attention to detail to ensure trading compliance and data accuracy.Strong results orientation, teamwork, and the ability to drive initiatives across departments and turn expertise into commercial outcomes.
