Subject areaBiomarker research in neurodegenerative diseasesSubject area descriptionThis employment will be embedded in the Swedish REAL AD cohort study, which validates a realistic screening approach for early Alzheimer’s disease involving the research of new and established fluid, imaging and digital biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease in the general population. All projects are part of local, national and international collaborations with interdisciplinary research groups led by world-leading researchers.Job assignmentsThe postdoctoral fellow will work on projects that focus on associations between new, digitalized methods for evaluating cognition and blood-, cerebrospinal fluid and neuroimaging-based biomarkers for disease neuropathology to capture the earliest signs of Alzheimer’s disease in the general population, leveraging a regional primary care infrastructure. Rich longitudinal cognition and biomarker data are readily available, complemented by registry-based health-related participant data, sleep and virus load data. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop their own research projects and actively engage in writing and publishing scientific articles, presenting the research at international conferences and applying for external research grants. The current position is fully funded.EligibilityThe eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg. To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made. In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area. To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher for this position, the applicant should hold a PhD in Statistics, Neuroscience, Data Science, Medicine or similar.AssessmentBasic requirements include very good understanding of statistics and biomarker analyses and modelling, coding experience (Python/Matlab/R/Bash etc.), excellent written and spoken English skills, experience in the field of neurodegenerative diseases and knowledge about AI-/ML-based approaches.
