Location: Europe / Hybrid / Selected Remote OpportunitiesEmployment: Full-timeLevel: Research Scientist / Senior Scientist / Principal We are looking for researchers specialising in Quantum Error Correction (QEC) and Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing (FTQC) to work on the architectures required to build useful, large-scale quantum computers. You will work at the interface between theoretical QEC and physical quantum hardware, developing codes, decoders and fault-tolerant protocols that account for realistic device constraints. ResponsibilitiesResearch and develop quantum error-correcting codes and fault-tolerant protocolsAnalyse logical error rates, thresholds and resource requirementsDesign syndrome extraction and logical-operation protocolsDevelop and benchmark decoding algorithmsModel realistic hardware noise and evaluate its impact on logical performancePerform numerical simulation of QEC protocols and logical circuitsInvestigate fault-tolerant state preparation, measurement and logical gatesCompare QEC architectures and identify practical performance/resource trade-offsDevelop hardware-aware QEC strategies for specific quantum computing platformsContribute to fault-tolerant quantum-computing architecture and technology roadmapsCollaborate closely with experimental physicists, hardware engineers, compiler engineers and quantum architectsTranslate theoretical research into implementable protocols Areas of InterestWe are particularly interested in experience involving one or more of: Surface codesQuantum LDPC / qLDPC codesColor codesConcatenated codesBosonic codesGKP codesErasure-biased / erasure-conversion QECSyndrome extractionQuantum decodingLogical gatesLattice surgeryMagic-state preparation/distillationFault-tolerant protocolsLogical compilationResource estimationNoise modellingLogical error modelling Hardware PlatformsCandidates may have worked on QEC for:Neutral atomsTrapped ionsSuperconducting qubitsPhotonic quantum computingSpin qubitsBosonic / continuous-variable systems Platform-specific expertise is valuable but not essential for every position.
