Senior Backend Engineer – PHP / Laravel Fully Remote – Europe | B2B Contract€65,000 – €80,000 depending on experience We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong PHP and Laravel experience to join a growing tech team building and developing a high-end web and app-based platform. This is a long-term B2B contract opportunity for someone who cares about clean code, good architecture and building scalable, reliable backend systems. You’ll have plenty of ownership, contribute to technical decisions and work closely with the wider engineering and product teams. The Role You’ll play a key role in designing, developing and improving the platform’s backend systems, with a strong focus on performance, scalability and engineering quality. You’ll be: Developing and maintaining backend systems using PHP and LaravelDesigning, building and optimising REST APIsWriting clean, maintainable and testable codeWorking with MySQL and/or PostgreSQLBuilding scalable backend services and working with microservices/distributed architecturesApplying SOLID principles and design patternsImproving application performance, reliability and responsivenessBuilding new functionality and services from scratchTaking ownership of development from design through to deliveryContributing to architecture and wider technical decisionsWorking collaboratively with engineers, product and other stakeholders Your experience: We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer with: Extensive commercial PHP development experienceStrong, recent and hands-on Laravel expertiseExcellent understanding of REST APIsStrong knowledge of MySQL and/or PostgreSQLExperience building scalable backend applicationsExperience with microservices and/or distributed systemsStrong understanding of SOLID principles and design patternsA genuine focus on clean code and maintainable architectureExperience building projects, services or significant functionality from scratchConfidence working with and improving existing codebasesA proactive approach and the ability to take ownership at senior level Experience integrating with travel booking engines or other complex third-party platforms would be a bonus, but isn’t essential.
