Data sits at the heart of the organisation - powering everything from business intelligence and operational decision-making to automation and emerging AI use cases. The company is currently going through a major transformation of its data environment, and this is a particularly exciting time to join. The foundations are being rebuilt, new ways of working are being introduced, and there is a huge opportunity to shape how data is used across the business. They’re looking for a Data Engineer who is genuinely curious about technology, understands the bigger picture, and enjoys figuring out how to solve problems rather than simply completing tickets. The Role:You’ll join a small, highly collaborative data team and work across the full data landscape.The core of the role is data modelling and building a strong, scalable data foundation, but you’ll also have the freedom to step outside the traditional boundaries of Data Engineering. One day you could be building a robust data model in dbt and BigQuery. The next, you might be building a Python service, creating an API to expose data, automating a business process, or helping develop an interface that allows AI agents to interact with company data. They’re looking for someone who can look at a problem and think: 'What do we actually need to build to solve this?' Rather than someone who only wants to work within one predefined part of the stack. What you’ll be working on:Build and maintain high-quality data models using SQL and dbtHelp develop and evolve the company's modern data warehouseWork with data coming from a range of different sources and systemsBuild Python-based services, applications and integrations where neededDevelop APIs and other interfaces for making data accessible to applications and AI agentsWork with data ingestion and automation using tools such as AirbyteContribute to infrastructure and deployments using GCP, Docker and TerraformTroubleshoot existing data flows and improve reliability and scalabilityHelp create the technical foundations for new AI and automation use casesWork closely with stakeholders to understand the business problem behind a request and turn it into a sustainable technical solutionContribute to improving engineering practices, architecture and ways of working across the data team The Technology:The core data stack is built around: dbt · Google BigQuery · SQL · Python · GCP · Docker · Terraform · Airbyte Experience with every technology isn't expected. In fact, they’re deliberately open to people who have worked with different cloud environments or tools. What matters more is that you understand the underlying concepts and are someone who can pick up new technology quickly. Who are they looking for?This role would suit a full-stack data-minded engineer - someone who is technically strong in data but also enjoys getting involved in the wider engineering challenge. You might be a Data Engineer who has:Strong SQL and data modelling experienceSolid experience with dbtUsed Python to build pipelines, services or applicationsWorked with cloud platforms such as GCP, Azure or AWSBuilt APIs or other services around dataWorked with infrastructure, deployment or automationExperience in a start-up, scale-up, innovation environment or consultancyHad to figure things out independently rather than working within a highly structured enterprise environment You don't need to have done everything listed above. They are much more interested in what you have actually built, how you approach problems, and how quickly you can understand something new. This isn't a role for someone who wants to spend all day exclusively focused on ingestion pipelines.Likewise, they're not looking for a Software Engineer who simply has an interest in data. The sweet spot is someone with data at their core, who can also move comfortably into engineering when the problem requires it. You might have built an API to serve data to another application.You might have created an internal tool with a light front end.You might have automated something that previously required manual work.You might have worked on an AI or ML-related use case. Or you might simply have spent time in a smaller environment where you had to work things out and build whatever was needed. The common thread is curiosity, ownership and a willingness to solve the whole problem. There is already a modern technology foundation in place, but there is a lot left to build. That means you'll have genuine influence over architecture, technical decisions and how the team evolves. The environment:This is a relatively small and highly collaborative technology organisation where things move quickly. You'll work closely with people across the business, and the demand for data is high. Stakeholders have ambitious ideas and plenty of use cases they want to explore, so you'll need to be comfortable prioritising, communicating clearly and working as part of a team.
