Senior Embedded Software Engineer - Freelance We're looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to provide technical experience on complex embedded systems and firmware development projects.This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer who combines deep hands-on embedded expertise with strong architectural thinking, mentoring capabilities, and the ability to guide technical direction across multidisciplinary teams. Essentials:Technical ExpertiseStrong C programming skills, including memory management, concurrency, interrupts, low-level debugging, and performance optimisationExperience with hardware-near software development and debugging of peripherals such as SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, and EthernetSolid understanding of firmware architecture, modular design, bootloaders, BSPs, device drivers, and secure firmware update mechanismsExperience working with reliability-critical systems, fault handling, watchdogs, deterministic timing, and power managementKnowledge of embedded cybersecurity, including secure boot, code signing, threat modelling, and vulnerability managementExperience with CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testingAbility to make sound architectural decisions balancing cost, memory, power consumption, safety, maintainability, and scalabilityStrong understanding of product lifecycle considerations, diagnostics, field updates, and backward compatibilityCommitment to engineering excellence through constructive feedback and technical guidanceStrong prioritisation and risk management skillsExcellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
