As a Senior GIS Full Stack Engineer (Geospatial Web Developer), you will contribute to the development and evolution of advanced geospatial web platforms that support disaster risk management, climate resilience, exposure mapping, and evidence-based policymaking at European and global levels. You will work in a highly international and multidisciplinary environment, transforming complex scientific and geospatial data into scalable, user-friendly web applications and interactive mapping solutions. What you will do Develop and maintain modern geospatial web applications and interactive mapping platforms.Design and implement front-end and back-end architecture for GIS-focused web solutions.Develop responsive user interfaces and engaging user experiences for data-intensive applications.Build and maintain Web GIS components using modern JavaScript technologies and mapping libraries.Design and implement data transformation processes, automation scripts, and custom software components to convert scientific and geospatial datasets into web-ready formats such as GeoJSON, JSON, and Cloud Optimized GeoTIFFs (COGs).Develop and integrate REST APIs, server-side services, and geospatial data endpoints.Monitor, test, and optimize Web GIS architecture to ensure high performance, scalability, availability, and accessibility.Implement security best practices, including vulnerability assessment, input validation, XSS mitigation, and OWASP-compliant development practices.Develop back-end services using technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, and PHP.Work with geospatial and scientific datasets derived from satellite imagery, census data, and other large-scale information sources.Create interactive visualizations, dashboards, infographics, and data-driven publications aligned with European Commission standards.Troubleshoot, debug, optimize, and continuously improve application performance and usability.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, researchers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver innovative geospatial solutions.Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and user guidance. What we are looking for University degree and extensive professional experience in software engineering and web development.Minimum 15 years of professional experience in full-stack website development and web administration.Minimum 10 years of experience in geospatial web development and Web GIS solutions.Minimum 10 years of experience in User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) design.Strong experience with front-end technologies including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.Hands-on experience with mapping and geospatial libraries such as OpenLayers and related GIS web technologies.Experience with modern JavaScript development, build tools, and responsive application design.Strong back-end development experience with Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, PHP, and REST API development.Experience processing and integrating geospatial data formats and large-scale scientific datasets.Knowledge of SQL databases, SQLite, and data integration techniques.Experience using Git and collaborative source code management tools.Strong understanding of web application security principles, OWASP best practices, and secure software development.Experience creating data visualizations, interactive dashboards, and geospatial user experiences.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multicultural and international environments.Excellent communication skills in English (B2+); Italian is required, and French is considered an advantage.Results-oriented mindset with a strong focus on quality, innovation, and delivery.
