Backend Engineer - Java/kotlin/Spring

We are looking for a hands-on Backend Engineer to join our clients Digital Enterprise organization, supporting primarily HR and Finance. You will be part of a cross-functional digital team building reliable services and integrations for important business processes. The assignment combines backend development with practical solution architecture: designing APIs and services, making sound decisions about system boundaries and integrations, and staying involved in implementation, testing, troubleshooting and operation.

This is not a traditional architecture assignment focused mainly on governance or documentation. We are looking for a builder who thinks architecturally, understands the business problems behind the systems being built and makes pragmatic trade-offs.

You will work directly with HR and Finance stakeholders to understand their processes, challenge requirements constructively and shape solutions that improve how people work. You will also help the team work effectively by creating clarity around priorities, facilitating useful discussions, improving ways of working and supporting less experienced developers.

Strong professional experience building backend systems in Java, Kotlin or a similar languageMeaningful experience with APIs, services, integrations and production softwareGood understanding of microservices, messaging and event-driven architectureStrong system-design ability grounded in hands-on deliveryFamiliarity with testing, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure and DevOpsComfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholdersPragmatic, curious and able to avoid unnecessary complexityExperience supporting team collaboration, delivery processes or the development of less experienced colleaguesCurious about adjacent areas such as data, infrastructure, DevOps or frontend

Kotlin and Spring experience is particularly relevant, but strong engineering fundamentals matter more than exact technology matching. We welcome experienced consultants provided they remain hands-on. Recent experience should include building, designing, debugging or operating software—not only architecture governance, management or advisory work.

You take responsibility for both the technical outcome and the conditions that enable the team to deliver well. You are curious about how the business works, communicate clearly across technical and business domains, and help create a collaborative environment where developers can learn and take ownership.
