Team Lead

Contract: 6-month contractLocation: Remote, Europe DayRate: €150-200 per day DOEStart: ASAP We’re supporting a UK SaaS business building a new European engineering team to deliver a major product modernisation programme. We’re looking for a hands-on Tech Team Lead who can lead a small cross-functional squad while remaining technically close to the engineering work. The initial project will focus on modernising a legacy SaaS platform, rebuilding key areas of the frontend in React and improving the architecture around existing services and APIs. The environment is highly AI-enabled, with AI development tools embedded throughout the software development lifecycle. We’re therefore looking for someone who has already adopted AI-assisted engineering or is genuinely enthusiastic about working this way. What you’ll be doing

• Lead and support a small team of software engineers• Take ownership of technical direction and day-to-day engineering delivery• Help modernise a large existing SaaS application• Lead the migration and rebuild of legacy frontend functionality into React• Make pragmatic decisions around architecture, APIs, maintainability and technical debt• Work closely with Product, Design, QA and Engineering stakeholders• Run technical discussions, code reviews and engineering ceremonies• Coach engineers and maintain high engineering standards• Identify blockers, dependencies and technical risks early• Support planning, estimation and delivery against agreed milestones• Use AI-assisted development tools across coding, testing, documentation and engineering workflows• Maintain strong standards around testing, security, reliability and production quality

What we’re looking for

• Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Team Lead or hands-on Engineering Manager• Genuine line management or people leadership experience• Strong software engineering background• Strong experience with React and modern frontend development• Experience working with APIs and modern web architectures• Experience modernising legacy applications or delivering major migration programmes• Strong understanding of software design, testing, CI/CD and production engineering• Comfortable balancing hands-on technical leadership with people and delivery responsibilities• Experience working in Agile, cross-functional product teams• Strong stakeholder communication skills• Comfortable working in environments with limited documentation and taking ownership quickly • Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar is highly desirable
