Senior Power Electronics Hardware Design Engineer We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Power Electronics Hardware Design Engineer to lead the design and development of power electronics for motor drive and motor generator unit (MGU) applications within the aerospace and defense sector. Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop power electronics architectures for motor drive and MGU systemsDesign inverter, rectifier, and bridge stages for PMSM, BLDC, and brushed DC (BDC) machinesDesign gate driver, protection, and isolation circuits for high-power switching stagesDesign starter/generator and alternator power conversion, rectification, and regulation circuitsSelect power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC/GaN) and perform switching and conduction loss and derating analysisDesign magnetics (inductors, transformers, current sensing) and DC-link and EMI filter stagesPerform thermal design, heatsink sizing, and cooling analysis for power circuitsDesign current and voltage sensing, isolation, and feedback circuits for closed-loop controlPerform schematic design and high-current, high-voltage PCB layoutConduct simulation, analysis, and design verification using LTspice, PLECS, PSIM, or SimulinkEnsure hardware designs address EMC/EMI and environmental qualification requirementsPlan and support power stage bring-up, integration, and qualification testingCollaborate with system, software, electrical machine, test, and certification teams Required QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related fieldMinimum of five years of hands-on experience in power electronics and motor drive hardware designStrong knowledge of switching converter topologies (buck, boost, flyback, half/full bridge, three-phase inverter)Strong knowledge of electrical machines, including alternators, generators, starters, PMSM, BLDC, and BDC motorsExperience with gate driver design, dead-time management, and short-circuit/overcurrent protectionExperience with power semiconductor selection, loss calculation, and thermal deratingExperience with magnetics design and high-current PCB layout practicesProficiency with schematic and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer or Mentor PADSExperience with power electronics simulation tools such as LTspice, PLECS, PSIM, or SimulinkExperience applying EMC/EMI-aware design practices to switching power stagesFamiliarity with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, and RTCA/DO-160Knowledge of RTCA/DO-254 and requirements traceability practices Preferred QualificationsExperience with ECU or MGU power electronics hardware developmentExperience with electrical machine design and analysis tools (Motor-CAD, JMAG, Ansys Maxwell, Altair Flux)Familiarity with sensorless control, resolver/encoder interfaces, and field-oriented control hardware requirementsFamiliarity with aerospace and defense hardware development and certification practices Please note this role is based in the UAE and requires relocation
