Job Title: Principal Engineer - Hardware (Power-Supply)Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (Relocation Opportunity) A leading defence company in Abu Dhabi is looking for a Principal Hardware Engineer (Power Supply) to join its engineering team and play a key role in developing high-performance, high-reliability power solutions for advanced aerospace, defence and telecommunications products. This is a highly hands-on role for an experienced power electronics engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and taking designs from concept and simulation through prototype development, testing and production. Key responsibilitiesDesign and develop high-frequency AC-DC, DC-DC and GaN-based switching converters.Select and size GaN/SiC devices, high-speed MOSFETs, magnetic components and other power components.Use tools such as LTspice, ADS or PLECS to simulate and optimise efficiency, thermal performance and transient response.Lead and support EMI/EMC compliance testing and certification activities.Develop power-tree architectures, schematics, PCB layout guidelines and thermal-management solutions.Support hardware bring-up, prototype testing and troubleshooting of power-rail issues.Work closely with electrical, mechanical and systems engineers to integrate power solutions into complete products and address thermal and mechanical requirements. What we’re looking for10+ years of experience designing high-frequency AC-DC, DC-DC and GaN-based switching converters, ideally within aerospace, defence or high-reliability telecoms.Strong knowledge of GaN/SiC devices, high-speed MOSFETs, magnetic components and power-tree design.Experience with LTspice, ADS, PLECS or similar simulation tools.Hands-on experience with EMI/EMC testing, compliance and certification.Experience taking hardware through design, bring-up, debugging and production review.Strong understanding of thermal management, PCB design considerations and design for testability.Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.A collaborative, analytical approach with strong problem-solving and communication skills. Why this opportunity? This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging power electronics designs where reliability and performance really matter. You’ll have the chance to contribute across the full hardware development lifecycle, work alongside experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams, and help develop next-generation products in a high-technology defence environment. If you enjoy solving difficult power electronics problems, working hands-on with hardware and seeing your designs move from simulation to real-world products, this could be an excellent opportunity to take your expertise to the next level.
