Senior Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Backend Infrastructure Engineer to build and operate critical backend infrastructure for service discovery, traffic management, and service-to-service authentication in a large-scale production environment. Location: StockholmDuration - 9-10 months + extensions Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop backend infrastructure and distributed systems using Java.Work with gRPC, Kubernetes/GKE, service discovery, load balancing, and failure handling.Implement traffic-management capabilities including zone-aware routing, regional failover, and capacity-aware spillover.Improve observability, metrics, troubleshooting, and production reliability.Plan and execute large-scale migrations with safe validation and rollback strategies.Lead design reviews and contribute to architectural decisions. Key Requirements5+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience.Strong Java experience building and operating production services/shared libraries.Strong understanding of distributed systems.Production experience with GCP and Kubernetes/GKE.Hands-on gRPC and Kubernetes experience.Strong debugging and performance optimisation skills.Experience safely rolling out infrastructure changes across multiple services/teams.Strong English communication skills.
